Windows SSD Performance Tweak

Elpamsoft has released a Windows performance tweak utility so you can get the most performance out of your Windows on an SSD.

You can download the utility at http://elpamsoft.com/Downloads.aspx.

So far I’ve tried the utility on two different systems (Windows 7, 64-bit) and did notice a speed difference.

A simple tip to speeding up MySQL

Find your WordPress install sluggish? Caching not making a difference. Try adding the following lines to your MySQL servers my.cnf.

[mysqld]
query_cache_type = 1
query_cache_size = 20M

Alot of MySQL default installations have the query_cache_size set to 0 (the default), disabling the cache. By setting it’s value to something greater than 0, it brings the cache, and your site, to life.

Check out the MySQL documentation at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/query-cache-configuration.html for details.

FreeBSD Tuning

From a ServerFault.com posting SaveTheRbtz:

“I wanted to share knowledge of tuning FreeBSD via sysctls, so i’m posting them with comments. Based on Igor Sysoev (author of nginx) presentation about tuning of FreeBSD to 100,000-200,000 of active connections.”

LDAP tuning – Internal error 80

ldap_modify: Internal (implementation specific) error (80)

One of OpenLDAPs clearer error messages.  After much digging, it turns our this error (80) is generated when openldap does not  have enought locks.

On a side note, I came across an article in the the Zimbra wiki on performance tuning your ldap server.  Worth the read.  The tips in the article also solved the error 80.
